Yung-Hung Sung is a New York based lighting and scenic designer originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With over 90 productions to his credit, Sung has collaborated with a wide range of theatre artists and companies across the globe. His work has been seen at major venues and festivals including the National Theater of Taiwan, National Taichung Theater, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (UK), Festival d’Avignon Off (France), Proyector Festival (Spain), Beijing Dance Festival, Shanghai International Arts Festival (China), Migration Matters Festival (UK), and the ChangMu Performing Arts Festival (Korea), among others.
Sung’s designs have been recognized with several prestigious honors. Long River with WCdance was awarded the 13th Taishin Arts Award. Panta Rhei was nominated for Emerging Lighting Design at World Stage Design 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan, and Ten Lines of Poetry to NK with the Neo-Classic Chamber Ensemble received the Bronze Award for Professional Lighting Design at World Stage Design 2022 in Calgary, Canada. He holds an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama (DGSD) and is the recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Jennifer Tipton Scholarship in Lighting, Stanley McCandless Scholarship, Donald and Zorka Oenslager Scholarship in Stage Design, William and Sarah Hyman Scholarship, and the Government Scholarship to Study Abroad from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.
With the urgency to respond to unfolding global events, Sung approaches design through a panoramic lens that embraces all sectors. He finds the uniqueness and essence of live performance lie in its frameless, immediate, multidimensional impact on its perceivers. For him, scenography is not merely a visual framework but a medium through which the human condition can be dissected, inner dialogues awakened, and personal statements declared, opening pathways to profound conversations and revealing even the most evasive conflicts. Sung believes that the emotional connection forged between performers and audiences ultimately transcends sophisticated language, intellectual concepts, or dazzling visual effects. Indeed, His faith is that a truly thought-provoking performance can arise from the simplest conditions, even on a bare stage, without a single design element.
來自台灣高雄，現旅居紐約。宋永鴻有著參與超過九十部製作的豐富底蘊，與世界各地頂尖劇場藝術工作者及團隊的合作經驗，是一位執著於光影與空間的燈光暨舞台設計師。他的作品足跡遍及全球以及台灣各大指標性場館與藝術節，從台灣的國家戲劇院、台中國家歌劇院、衛武營國家藝術文化中心，至英國愛丁堡藝穗節、法國亞維儂外圍藝術節（Festival d’Avignon Off）、西班牙 Proyector 錄像藝術節、北京舞蹈雙週、上海國際藝術節、英國 Migration Matters 藝術節，以及韓國創舞國際藝術節等地。
他的設計作品屢獲國際獎項的共鳴與肯定。他與 WCdance 合作的《長河》（Long River）榮獲第十三屆台新藝術獎年度五大獎；作品《Panta Rhei》入圍 2017 年台北世界劇場設計展（WSD）的新銳燈光設計；而與新古典室內樂團合作的《給NK的十行詩》更於 2022 年加拿大卡加利世界劇場設計展中，奪下專業燈光設計銅獎。他擁有耶魯大學戲劇學院（Yale School of Drama）設計藝術碩士(MFA)學位，求學期間深獲多項重要獎項支持，包含 Jennifer Tipton 燈光設計獎學金、Stanley McCandless 獎學金、Donald and Zorka Oenslager 舞台設計獎學金、William and Sarah Hyman 獎學金，以及台灣教育部的留學獎學金。
感受著此時此刻世局的瞬息萬變，帶著回應時代的迫切感，宋永鴻著迷於以廣闊但兼容的視野探索設計的可能。他認為，現場演出最迷人的本質，在於它沒有框架；那是一種活在當下、多維度的力量，能直擊觀眾的感官。對他而言，舞台佈景不單單只是視覺的骨架，而是一種剖析人類處境、喚醒內在低語並宣告自我主張的媒介；它能開啟深刻的對話，讓那些最隱晦、最想逃避的衝突也能無所遁形。
他始終相信，表演者與觀眾之間的情感鏈結，最終將超越華麗的詞藻、繁複的理念與絢麗的視覺效果。一場真正能發人深省的演出，往往誕生於最簡單的狀態。哪怕是在一個空無一物、沒有任何設計元素的空曠舞台上，依然能留下最強烈的共鳴。
